About The Work
To me the dragonfly symbolizes enlightenment. And speaking of enlightenment, as I was discussing a similar piece of work with a collector friend, he referred to these creatures as “darning needles.” I had never heard of that. I have since discovered the term to be primarily of East Coast and Deep South usage, and further that it most likely originated in Northern Europe as “The Devil’s Darning Needle.” A creature that would sew shut the mouths of children who spoke out of turn. I will speak no more of this.
