Contemporary Wood: State of the Art

Online Exhibition - June 11 - August 6, 2017

The Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts is working with select galleries to present an online exhibition featuring contemporary artists working in wood. The exhibition is being curated by Kevin Wallace, Director of the Center, who is taking the opportunity to consider the current state of contemporary wood art, sharing outstanding works by both emerging and established artists.

Kirsten Muenster Projects is representing the following artists in the exhibition: John Beaver, Max Brosi, Christian Burchard, Richard Kennedy, Ron Layport, Alain Mailland, Pascal Oudet, Betty Scarpino and Hans Weissflog.

BioDiversity: Celebrating the Natural World

April 15 - May 27

The Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts is working with select galleries to present an online exhibition, featuring contemporary artists working in all media who celebrate the natural world in their work. As an activity of the Happy Valley Foundation, the Center is presenting this exhibition as a means of sharing the Foundation's guiding principles of protecting the environment, while celebrating the natural value of diversity in all spheres of life.

Wood artists Pascal Oudet and Christian Burchard share their intuitive approach to working harmoniously with the inherent structure of the material – and how their fascination with the unpredictable nature of unusual and unstable woods results in works that tell the story of the trees from which they came.

Come listen as metalsmith artists David Huang and David Barnhill discuss the Layered Resplendence series, an ongoing collaboration creating Mokume Gane raised vessels. They will share some of the tools, techniques, and challenges involved in developing these works.
